"Great Location North of Hollywood"

Studio City is a conveniently located and popular Valley neighborhood just North of The Hollywood Hills and the Canyon. It is a low density area with a high income/education non-diverse population demographic. It has a median age of 38 which is considered older for a city population. Many celebrities live in Studio City, and obviously several studios are located there. It is considered historic for Los Angeles with many of the homes being built at the earlier part of the 20th century.

Studio City is considered an expensive community for the Valley. A 2 br. condo at the time of writing this review is priced at $585,000 and properties go as high as $2 million on the Southern portion of the community into the Canyon for a 4 br 3500+ square foot home. Rentals are are in high demand in Studio City due to it's central location. Most of the options available at the time of writing the review were 1 and 2 bedroom condos ranging from $1,500 to $3,000.

The shopping and restaurants are an added bonus for living in this community. The main shopping districts include; The 4 blocks of Ventura Boulevard between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue.
Pros
  • Close to Hollywood and West LA
  • Charming homes

  • quiet nightlife

"The Brady House and Celebrities Galore"

Studio City is one of those small neighborhoods at the edge of the Santa Monica mountains and the Hollywood Hills where people love to live. It’s not so much of a place for young people—only about 1 in 7 residents or so are younger than 20 (only 1 in 35 are 11 to 19)—and 3 of 5 residents rent. So it’s an older community by virtue of the paucity of young people.

Lot’s of celebrities and people in the entertainment business like to live in Studio City because of its location—just far enough away from the heart of action to give them a bit of privacy, but close enough where they can get to it without too much traffic. There is also a wide selection of homes from mansions up in the hills off of Mulholland Drive to apartments and more middle class kinds of homes down by Ventura Blvd. (In fact, you can find the home that was used as the exterior for the Brady Bunch in Studio City).

Studio City is also home to the CBS Studios and to several entertainment business locales. Many casting agents and modeling studios make their home in Studio City as well.

Despite its semi-urban feel, crime remains low in Studio City. There have only been three murders in 3 years in Studio City (one a shooting by police).

The main thoroughfare is Ventura Blvd. where you can find a number of great restaurants, including the original Jerry’s Famous Deli, a great Italian Place called Mezzo Mondo, and vegetarian place called the Vegan Plate.

You will also find tons of very, very pricey boutique stores like the Turquoise Boutique where you can find $500.00 dresses, or the slightly more reasonable Maxine Boutique.

There are also many places to work out and several trails where people can hike and jog.
Pros
  • nice houses
  • close to freeway
  • celebrity enclave
Cons
  • expensive
  • high property crime
  • a little boring
