South side living
South ave is probably one of the more prominent street in Syracuse to raise a family. There is a wilson farms, An elementary school, many cornerstores, two parks including Elmwood park, park so safe that you could walk in it at night and have no anxiety whatsoever. And the legendary bar Swallows right next to Pizazz pizza both are reputable and well established for years. Some people also lovingly refer to this street as Murder ave. due to the fact that kids can go to sleep with the soft song of the sirens and various whimsical noises of gunshots. I also forgot to mention the easy access since the 80's to crack, heroin and other illicit narcotics such as jenkem or wet. If your kid wants to check out the neighborhood he may find treasures like empty weed/crack bags...stems....nicely boarded up houses empty bags of barbecue corn nuts..chico stick wrappers...quarter juice containers..firearms...or maybe just maybe a blackjack! These various paraphanalia can be combined or melted to make wonderful artistic creations to adorn your new split family apartment. The neighbors aren't all bad so don't stereotype the neighborhood...but every once in a while you find a bad egg. Other resources available are windows to break out of the vacant Zak's bar and grill...plus upper middle class people to rob in the strathmore area...and if you are feeling really daring give a swim in Onodondoga pool where hundreds of little squirts just squirt away every year. Take A cruise threw the park where fights break out on the basketball court...and minivans peel off recklessly into children!! Enjoy the racism and alienation amongst the racists...who blame this and that for sheer laziniess....and also enjoy the good people who work hard day by da to get by and feed there kids. This is not a satire entirely
but won't somone wake up our city and refurbish and rennovate this once beautiful side of town? Thanks for the bridge repair..on seneca turnpike......and gentrification has to start somewhere!!! And for al those "white flight" folk...you may have had a point...not on the african americans you were scared of ..but on the money and property value. It is now a class war so lets see the southside sedgewick....lets see the south side meadowbrook....lets see the grants and repair "face it this is a college town" given to the university area makes it's way past the highway.....or is this a rehab town...where the poor stay poor and the rich stay rich...well a born and raised resident doesn't want to see it...the deecrepency of the Projects..versus the quarter million dollar home a couple streets up. protect the kids signed CH born
