A triathlon in Westminster?

I competed in my first (sprint distance) triathlon this past summer in Evergreen. This got me to thinking that it would be fun to have one in Westminster. The area around Standley Lake would be ideal to host an event like this. All this being purely hypothetical, would anyone else be interested in competing in a Westminster triathlon? Obviously, Westminster would have to grant an exemption to allow swimming in Standley lake but Evergreen did so by allowing the competitors to swim in Evergreen lake which is normally prohibited. It is difficult to imagine many better places in Colorado to host an all-outdoor triathlon.

HI Mike, congrats on finishing your first triathlon! I did my first sprint triathlon at Cherry Creek several years back and hated swimming in it. It felt dirty and gross, probably since the Cherry Creek flows through so much farmland before it gets to the reservoir. Lots of funk coming down that way I guess. I think with all the athletic people in and around the Denver area a triathlon would do really well just about anywhere in Colorado. Westminster is close for a lot of towns and it would bring some revenue into the city if they hopped on board. If you pursue this with the city you should post back on here and let everyone know!

Standley Lake is reportedly full of plutonium in the silt from Rocky Mountain Flats. I read that they don't even allow dogs to swim in it because they stir up the sediment and Plutonium sinks into the sediment. So as absolutely gorgeous as it is, I would never swim in that lake.
