"Where are the Studios?"
The “studio” in Studio Village does not refer to the types of homes in the area—which are just about all single family Ranch homes of the kind that became common in Southern California in the post war period, but to the fact that this was for a long time a company town. As you may know, “Gone with the Wind,” and many other productions were filmed here in Culver City. Sony Studios still has its home here. Thus, Studio Village, refers more to vast nearby film lot than to anything else.
The major feature of this neighborhood is, in fact, Lindbergh Park. It stretches along the western edge of the neighborhood, along Ballona Creek, famous for its bike trail. The park has lots to offer, including a sand-boxed play area for the little ones, soccer fields and basketball courts, and a barbeque area. It is a bit dated but it is a fairly good place to have things like day camps.
The homes in this area firmly middle class with varied levels of upkeep from house to house and street to street. Overall, however, these are relatively quiet streets that make for a good environment in which to live.
Most of the restaurants and stores are along Sepulveda and Jefferson though these are mostly the kind of chains that you can find anywhere else—from Subway Sandwiches to a chain supermarket. It is nothing particularly attractive or unique about his location. Rents in the area reflect this to a certain extent and opening up possibilities.
Overall a nice little place to live.
