Shindler Dr
"Highly residential and mostly quiet"
This road is a highly residential area with a mixture of low income to moderately upscale houses in various types of neighborhoods. The road itself is well maintained and is a direct link from 103rd Street on the westside of Jacksonville to the back side of Argyle Forest, which sits on the border of the westside and Orange Park. While the area is mostly residential, there are retail and commercial sites at each end of the long road. It is well traveled for being a residential area, but can be safely crossed on foot.

"Highly traveled, near a military base"
This highly traveled road is also known as US 17. The biggest draw of vehicles are going to and coming from Naval Air Station Jacksonville, which is the largest military base in the state of Florida. There are many neighborhoods off the main road, and tons of places to eat and shop. One of the largest book stores on the east coast is also on this road. It has direct access to I-10 and I-295, as well as direct links to other highly commercial areas. The road has a lot of traffic, but not so much that it is unbearable.

"Small, older neighborhood"
This street is part of a small, older neighborhood on Jacksonville's southside. The streets are fairly paved, and most of the homes are of the concrete block variety. The local high school has gone downhill in recent years, and there is now a police substation on the premises. There are plenty of restaurants, churches, and retail facilities within a short drive. The neighbors are friendly and there are a moderate amount of kids who seem to treat each other well.

"Getting better and better"
This road is getting better and better! It is well maintained and smoothly paved. It has beautiful subdivisions on it with upscale homes and very nice shopping centers. There is a relatively new high school in the area as well. The traffic is moderate and the road can safely be crossed on foot. The airport is only a few minutes drive away, as well as a brand new outdoor mall. The whole area is continually getting nicer.

"Some parts NOT for families"
This road is also known as US 1. It stretches from downtown Jacksonville until almost into St. Augustine. Very little of this road is residential. There are a lot of restaurants, hotels, and shopping areas. Unfortunately, there is also a stretch that is a high crime and prostitution area. However, on the other end, there is a really nice mall, new movie theaters, and great places to shop.

"Busy thoroughfare, mostly retail"
This street has a direct on and off ramp from I-295. It is mostly retail with lots of restaurants and shopping areas. There are side street neighborhoods, and a few houses, but not very many directly on 103rd St. The local high school has had some issues, but is not one of the worst in the city. The street has moderate to heavy traffic, but can be safely crossed on foot in some areas.

Blanding Blvd
"Extremely conjested but lots to do and see!"
This is one of the busiest roads in Jacksonville. It stretches from near downtown on into Orange Park and has tons of things to do and see. However, along with that comes horrible traffic. If you need or desire just about anything, it can be found on Blanding Blvd. While there are a few apartment complexes and single family homes scattered throughout, I wouldn't recommend living on this road. There are plenty of side roads leading to decent and some upscale neighborhoods, but Blanding Blvd is not safe for children, or anyone on foot.

"This area is going downhill..."
Years ago, this street was beautiful. It had a really nice high school, decent apartment complexes, and easy access to restaurants, shopping, and gas stations. In recent years it has gone downhill fast. The apartment complexes are no longer the safe family environment they used to be, and the high school leaves a lot to be desired. This street still provides a quick link between two major roads, but other than that, it isn't good for much. The high school now has a police sub-station on the premises, and the few retail stores that are there leave much to be desired.

"Too crowded but has lots to do!"
This street runs the length from the San Marco area (near downtown Jacksonville) through Mandarin, and into Julington Creek. While there is virtually anything and everything you could ever want or need on this long road, it is entirely too busy! It is not safe to try to cross on foot at all. There are a few apartment complexes scattered throughout, but the majority of the road is dedicated to retail and commercial businesses. The road is well paved and has many stoplights, making it easy to travel, if you can stand the massive amount of traffic.

"Perfect family atmosphere"
This street is located in Walden Woods subdivsion. It is absolutely beautiful! The streets are well maintained and the lawns are neatly manicured. The family atmosphere is great! The neighbors are very friendly and look out for one another. There are plenty of kids that get along well together, also. The schools are excellent and very highly rated. There are grocery stores, gas stations, a few churches, and various restaurants within close driving distances. This is an outstanding neighborhood to raise your family in!

Broadway Ave
"Centrally located, easy access"
This road runs east-west through Orlando and really gives the tourist/traveler a lot of different choices for lodging and dining. One end is close to the beautiful Waterford Lakes shopping complex and the University of Central Florida. The other direction will put you closer to the them park area of Orlando. There is also a large selection of shopping centers and free-standing stores on this road as well, if you are not into the extremely large shopping complexes such as Waterford Lakes. Beware though, as with many streets, there are nicer parts, and there are sketchier parts, both which are easily detectable by simply keeping your eyes open. For the most part, this area is great for finding something to do or grabbing a bite to eat.

"Close to the Orlando International Airport"
This busy road intertwines with others just like it, all full of hotels and eateries. Many of both to choose from to fit just about everyone's budget! This area is very close to the Orlando International Airport, which makes it a great place to stay for the early morning/late night traveler. This area is also well lit, but a little too busy for a pedestrian or biker.

"Lots of shopping, eateries, and places to stay"
This road has a lot of timeshare properties on it, along with a large amount of shopping and eatery opportunities. A tourist/traveler would be hardpressed to be without something to see or do. The area is relatively safe, and close to I-4. However, it is a little easy for the newest visitors to get turned around and momentarily disoriented. Luckily, there are many landmarks that make it easy to find your way again.

"Not the most populated, but certainly close..."
This street will get you close enough to all the action without making you stay in the middle of it. Crosses with International Drive, so there is plenty to do, yet you can return to your hotel at a much quieter area. The entire road is well paved and complete with beautiful landscape. My favorite hotel in this area is Portofino Bay, which gives you the added perks if you are a Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure guest. Definitely a family friendly area!

North John Young Pkwy
"Not the safest of areas"
I made the mistake of getting off at this exit to find a gas station and some food. I immediately recognized that it wasn't the safest area to be in. Immediately after that, I saw the Detention Center across the street, surrounded by a large fence with coiled barb-wire along the top. There is a gas station, one hotel, and one restaurant currently in the vicinity. This traveler advises to keep on going to the next exit!

"Great Nightlife Activities!!"
This area of downtown Orlando is seriously hoppin'! There is so much to see and do that you certainly won't be bored!! If you're really want to get your heart pumping, try going in October, when the ghouls and goblins come out to play! Personally, I do not find this area suitable for young children, however teens and adults will have plenty to do and see!

"Park and Stay at your own risk!"
This street has changed a lot over the past 15 years. It has certainly kept up with the growth of Orlando, and is filled with lots of inexpensive hotels. However, the title says it all..."Park and Stay at your own risk." This is not the safest section of town. Having said that, if you are in the mood for something a little out of the ordinary, this very well could be your place!

"Adults Only street..."
In a majorly family-oriented town, I was surprised to see a street so centrally located that clearly caters to the adult crowd only. While there are North and South ends of this road, for the most part, it is not well-suited for the younger crowd. If you are looking for anything risque, this is the place to find it.

"Close to Disney with lots of great options!"
Irlo Bronson is very close to the Walt Disney World Complex. This road is very long, providing a wide selection of restaruants, hotels, souvenir shops, grocery stores, etc. The traffic in the center portion, nearest the interstate, is the most crowded, while the opposite ends lighten up a bit. Like International Drive, this street offers a lot, but unlike International Drive, this is not a road that you would want to walk on. Talk your car everywhere with you. Lots of traffic travelling at higher speeds than International Dr. The bright neon lights are sure to attract the attention of young and old alike!

"You're never at a loss for something to do!"
This street is jam-packed full of exciting activities for all ages. Whether you're looking for a dinner theater, water park, movie theater, that perfect souvenir, or somewhere to get a bite to eat, International Drive has it all!! Complete with a wide selection of restaurants that range from fast food and family friendly up to elegant dining. Best piece of advice...find a central location and park your car. Walking to your destination is faster and safer!
