"Land of the Boilermakers"
West Lafayette is on the Purdue side of the Wabash River, and is as collegiate as the town of Lafayette (back across the Wabash) is dead-quiet, quaint, and old-white-people-y. West Lafayette is tiny. It's most thriving neighborhood is Chauncey Hill, right next to the Purdue campus. Chauncey Hill is incredibly diverse, with nothing but specialty ethnic grocery stores, a huge variety of ethnic restaurants and hookah bars, and various shops all owned by Indian/Middle-eastern/various exotic non-white people.
It's a fun area and the diversity is all due to the people the university attracts, so it's VERY different from Lafayette. It also has great independent bookstores with character, Prohibition-era bars, and tons of amazing Indian restaurants.
West Lafayette is also home to the famous Triple XXX, which was featured on the Food Network. Don't miss out.
This is a great place to raise a family. There are quieter streets as you get further away from Chauncey Hill, and the high school in West Lafayette is one of the best in the country. Not a lot of crime or nuisance, again as long as you stay away from rowdy college bars. And you can catch Purdue games too.
