"Berkley Park Neighborhood: Eugene's first subdivision"

My parents bought their little Berkley Park bungalow back in 1975, when I was just 2 years old. I loved growing up in this neighborhood! All the neighbors are very easy-going. My parents still live there, and will probably remain there until they die. Up until the 1990s, many of the folks living there were originals from when the subdivision was first developed. It's not a fancy neighborhood by any means, but there has always been a sense of community there. Aside from the occasional bicycle theft, I've yet to see any substantial crime in that neighbord. All neigbors are very friendly, mostly college educated. There are R.Ns, Sanitary workers, county-government workers, social workers, teachers- that sort of thing. Every home built in this little Westmoreland area community was built very high quality considering it was built on marsh-land! These are VERY well-built homes! The floorplans are simple, versitile, and very easily convertable. Several of these homes have been converted into larger, nicer dwellings. There's even a sand-filled park in the very heart of the neigborhood. As a child, I attended Westmoreland Elementary, which was just a few blocks from our home. It was, and still is a very happy neighborhood.
