"Affordable neighborhood in Edmond schools - Great for families"
We live in Fair Hill. It is a great value in Edmond schools. We are surrounded by homes that are much more expensive, so our value will stay high. The neighborhood is friendly. It is a mix of working class people, retirees, single-income families who can't afford other areas in Edmond, and young couples.
People really take care of each other here. If you need someone to watch your house when you are out of town, there are multiple options. There are many widows who live in the area, and people look out for them. If they need someone to move something or get worried about something at night, they just call their neighbors. I personally have at least spoken to everyone on my block and most of the people across the alley from me. That is somewhat unusual these days.
The driveways are in the back, so kids can run up and down the front lawns down the whole street. There are no sidewalks, but the expanse of grass is really nice. Also, with driveways in back, the traffic on the street is greatly reduced.
There are some people in the neighborhood who don't take care of their houses as well as they should. We don't have a community association, which is a pro and a con.
The neighborhood is pretty safe. We haven't had any major incidents that I know of in the seven years we have lived here.
The local elementary school, Charles Haskell Elementary, is very good. Their are lots of activities for kids nearby...sports, dance studios, swimming lessons, music lessons, etc.
The location is one of the best things about it. It is just a couple of minutes from the Kilpatrick Turnpike. You can be Downtown in 20 minutes, to the airport in half an hour, and at Quail Springs Mall in 10 minutes. We have thought about moving to a bigger house, but we can't beat this location!
I would highly recommend this neighborhood for people who want Edmond schools and an Edmond location with a budget friendly mortgage.
