"Just far enough from mission"
Madrid is actually 4 blocks from Mission...that makes it close enough to walk down to, but far away enough that you don't have to listen to all the traffic and shenanigans that occur every night around 2am at any number of the excelsior's numerous bars...
now on Madrid, like most every block of the excelsior, (Geneva and parts of Mission are the exceptions) parking is at a ridiculous premium...part of the problem is that so many garages have been converted into in-laws (legally or otherwise) that the idea of parking inside of your garage has become a thing of the past...for years now, once a week, you can see residents stalking the street sweeper...they'll move their cars out of the way just long enough for the for the ticket writing dpt to go by and for the street to be cleaned...then, within 20 to 30 seconds, all of the cars have been moved back in into their same spots where most of them will remain, unmoved, until the next week..
in 2016, it was so bad for one Madrid st resident, in the 100 block I think, that he snapped and is now accused of trying to blow up some of his neighbor's cars over ongoing parking disputes...
