"Families, Young Singles, Renters, Owners, Dogs, Cats and Squirrels"
Ive lived in North Center (on North Leavitt Street...) in Chicago for 2 years now. I'm a renter, but our block has a great mix of million + dollar houses, along with rentals I'd guess down to the low 700$ range (My lady and I rent a fantastic duplex-down with 3 beds and 2 baths and a garage spot for 2k per month. A little pricey, but thats 2000 square feet in Chicago....).
The street is quiet, but there are bars a block away and a Jewel (grocery store) just across our back alley. There are three brand new million plus dollar houses on the block, two of which sold recently. We have two dogs, and they love the friendly atmosphere- and the squirrels they are able to chase. In all, its my favorite place, out of all of the places I've lived in Chicago (Roscoe Village, Bucktown, Lincoln Square, Downtown, and River North). A+. Oh, and by the way- North Center is sandwiched between Lincoln Square and Roscoe Village... 7 or so miles north of downtown (a short Brown-Line train ride away).
