"Too fantastic to believe"
I LOVE my neighborhood and my street in particular. The neighbors are wonderful, caring, generous, and genuinely interesting people.
Friends from other parts of San Diego or back on east cannot believe how great my neighborhood is and they all want to move here.
First, everyone knows each other by name.
Second, there are planned and spontaneous parties and activities throughout the year; a pancake breakfast, Chili cook-off, Christmas parties, ladies night out, Friday night happy hours, and plenty of impromptu get-togethers among neighbors.
Third, the people are extremely interesting; teachers, a published author, physicist, marine biologist, doctor, a lawyer, school principal, classical musicians, priest, and fascinating retired folks, just to name a few.
There is wonderful diversity and mutual respect. There is an amazing richness of perspective; conservatives, liberals, independents - we have them and everyone gets along. We have brand new babies and senior citizens in their 80s. Some neighbors are very social, and involved in the community while and others enjoy their privacy. Everyone is amazingly considerate of his or her neighbors.
Phenomenon community pride. Our neighborhood was featured in several community home tours that continue to build neighborhood pride. The crown jewel of the neighborhood is a 100–year old Victorian mansion opened and newly restored by the nicest couple in the area. There are also wonderful classic homes from the 20s, 30s, and 40s as well as newer homes scatter throughout the neighborhood. There are no cookie-cutter developments in this area; all the homes are unique. The homeowners take great pride in their houses and there is remodeling and upgrading going on constantly. The variety of architecture styles and diversity of home-owners’ tastes are evident as one walks through the neighborhood, but there is also a wonderful harmony.
Ultimately, it is the people. The neighbors are wonderful. I couldn’t image wanting to live anywhere else.
