"Uptown is a fantastic neighborhood for young professionals."
I've lived in Uptown in Minneapolis for 5 years. I LOVE this neighborhood. There are wonderful apartments and duplexes all around a really fantastic business district. My apartment is within walking distance (no more than 3 blocks) of fantastic bars, restaurants, shopping, and spas. It's amazing!
For eating out I'd recommend Chino Latino for those interested in trendy urban nightlife, Barbette for locally grown, delicious food and a chill atmosphere, and the Uptown Bar for great burgers, beer, and fantastic local music.
There's also a ton of shopping. Great boutiques like Everyday People (hip second hand store), and Heartbreaker as well as national chains like Victoria's Secret and Urban Outfitters. There are antique stores and craft shops, shoe stores and coffee shops. (Isles Bun and Coffee serves the best Cinnamon Rolls in town.)
There are two amazing lakes just a few blocks from my house (Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles) for tons of outdoor summer and winter enjoyment. Both Lakes are completely public with excellent paths and trails. You can even rent canoes or kayaks to explore them as they are connected.
While I say it's great for young professionals, there are also families and older people living here. The proximity of great food, great public transportation and great people make it a popular spot for all kinds of people.
