Littlerock
5/5

"This rural town is a hidden gem. Reasonable prices yet less than an hour commute to LA"
I commute from Chatsworth daily, and when it came time to find a house, no area offered as much opportunity as Littlerock, California. Most of the tracts in the town were subdivided almost 100 years ago as one acre parcels, providing most homeowners large and usable lots. If you include Sun Village on the North side of town, Littlerock contains a population of around 10,000 people. The center of town is about a 10 minute drive East of the 14 freeway onramp at Pearblossom Highway, and is located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountain Range. The downtown area features lots of mom and pop style shops including the famous Charlie Brown Farms as well as many local produce stands and self pick orchards. Compared to other areas in the Antelope Valley, crime here is very low. You see many people walking around, biking, and even riding horses. Being outside the city of Palmdale, the utilities are very cheap. Most of the town conveniently has natural gas, and county water. In the Southern part of town in Juniper Hills, where many large custom estates overlook the valley. Newer neighborhoods East of old Palmdale provide a large shopping and retail infrastructure. In Less than a 5 minute drive, you have newly developed center that includes Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Super Target, Stater Bros, Starbucks, and much more. I moved here in part because I enjoy the outdoors. Littlerock is an excellent home base for exploring both the desert and the Angeles National Forest. Many people in town own dirtbikes and 4x4 vehicles for this very purpose. The Littlerock Resevoir provides a close to home outdoor destination, with recreational activities that include fishing, day use, boating and more. El Mirage Dry Lake Bed provides countless opportunities for camping and offroad vehicle use. Once off the main road, the area doesn't feel like the desert, as most streets are lined with old growth trees. With Palmdale becoming a major transportation hub for upcoming high speed rail projects to SF and LV, and hipsters flocking to cheap farmable land, the time to buy in Littlerock is now. Why struggle everyday to afford high rent in crime ridden areas of LA, or the rapidly deteriorating Simi and Santa Clarita Valleys? You don't have to. 30 minutes from Canyon Country exists a Gem of a community, with good people. Play it smart. Want to open your own business? You will finally be able to afford it with cheap housing, and affordable, abundant commercial space.
