"Quiet neighborhood on the doorstep of EGR"

Eastgate nestles right against East Grand Rapids with a large portion of the area within a mile or two of Gaslight Village and beautiful Reeds Lake. With the exception of schools available, Eastgate is like living in East GR but with 50% of the taxes. Its a middle-income area

The neighborhood is usually very quite and feels safe. There is an assisted living home in the center in the former Metro Hospital location. Near there is Andrea's Pizza, a barber shop and the former location of the pharmacy (now vacant). Hidden away is the Heather Downs Pool Association too.

To the SE edge is Breton Village mall area where you will find a D&W grocery store & gas station, Chinese takeout, Blimpie, Starbucks, Anthropologie, Great Lakes Shipping Company restaurant, Breton Carwash, a couple banks, the MAC athletic facility and a few more retailers. The Woodland Mall, CenterPointe Mall are within easy access by car or bus. Breton St connects to 28th Street and head east on Burton to connect to East Beltline.

The Eastgate neighborhood association seems fairly active in organizing a couple of family-oriented events each year as well as very helpful trash day. They publish the "Gatewatch" newsletter every month or two. Other updates are available by the "Eastgate Neighborhood Association" group on facebook where neighbors often communicate helpful info like missing pets or questionable door-to-door sales people.

Schools and municipal services are provided by the City of Grand Rapids. Residents must therefore pay Grand Rapids city income tax.

Plenty of walkable sidewalks and easy walk to EGR where there is a 5 to 6 mile trail around Reeds Lake. More bike lanes are being added along Lake Dr and others connecting the area to Eastown. This is still primarily a car-dependent neighborhood though.

The area is safe but head further west (specifically SW) and it descends fairly quickly. Check out crimemapping.com and you will see that there is rarely much crime east of Plymouth but to the west it picks up. Note: EGR does not report its crime data to this mapping service so no data is shown to the NE of Eastgate for comparison.
