"A large, woefully uninteresting street"
Devonshire is a huge street with varied terrain and night life, stretching across some 5 incorporated cities across the northern San Fernando Valley. In the west, in the city of Chatsworth, the street is heavily congested. Devonshire and Topanga and Devonshire and De Soto are easily among the most congested intersections in the San Fernando Valley during rush hour, and the noise level is terrible throughout the day.
In Chatsworth, the street runs along the Chatsworth Transit Center which includes a train station and connections to major bus lines that go throughout the valley, and one Simi Valley bus that takes the rider directly into Simi Valley.
The 158 bus which is the only bus which runs from the transit center all the way down Devonshire (until it becomes Arleta) is unforgivably slow, late, and sometimes doesn't even show up. The drivers tend to be rude, and the bus only runs once an hour (if that). Furthermore, the bus tends to be packed to the point where there is no room to stand, and sometimes people become trapped and unable to exit the bus during rush hours because there are so many people on it.
The street has only a few redeeming qualities: it has a number of grocery stores including a small health food store, a Trader Joe's, an Albertsons, some CVS and other generic chains and even a huge Asian shopping outlet on southwest corner of Devonshire and Reseda.
The only restaurants worth mentioning are both on Devonshire and Topanga. They are the Country Deli, which serves fantastic hamburgers and breakfast dishes, and a Japanese restaurant in the same shopping center. They are both located on the north west corner of the intersection.
There is certainly not a neighborhood feel to the street, large sections of which especially in the Northridge run along seemingly endless brick walls. The houses running along the street have a disconnected feel to them, meaning that one gets the impression that there is not much interaction between the occupants of one house and another.
This street only has one free wireless internet hotspot at the Coffee Bean on Devonshire and Reseda (you do have to buy something though).
The library in Chatsworth is small and has a very meager selection of books. Their foreign language section is terrible, and one can nearly judge a library by its foreign language selection.
