"Great small town, beautiful area."
Some of the best Texas hill views exist in Wimberley. Lots of friendly locals to help you out. HEB and ACE Hardware are your major shopping options... otherwise, you'll be in for a drive to San Marcos, Dripping Springs (a drive with some incredible local "in the know" views along RM 165), or Austin.
Cute tourist-centric downtown, with moderate to high priced (but locally produced) items. The rural parts of north Wimberley are an odd mix of old hippies and republican hunters with guns that somehow get along.
Downtown was impacted by major floods in 2015 which the town is still emotionally recovering from.

"Gunspoint"
Commonly knowns as "gunspoint" to locals, lots and lots of serious crime here mixed with good lower class families trying to make a decent living. In the brief time I was in greenspoint, car was broken into, friends apartment had someone try to get in through a window, and had a few unfriendly encounters with locals after dark while minding my own business.
Spent a lot of time here in the mid 2000's and it was downright scary after dark. Lots of gang activity, murders in public places, etc. Not really somewhere you want to be if you can avoid it. I think the *serious* crime has been down in recent years on the bright side after Houston Police moved into the (now failing) Greenspoint mall.
It might be revitalized someday, but I doubt it.
