"Banana Belt Republic"
Pretty much the MVP of residential in Sausalito, Turney Street has pedestrian access to world class sushi (Sushi Ran), student budget Indian food (Sartaj might be affordable, but people drive from all over the Bay Area to eat here), an organic food market (Real Foods), a dive bar from central casting (Smitty's) that is equal parts fishermen, locals, and hotties from The City, and a three screen art rep theatre. Housing ranges from Edwardian mansions turned into multiple family residences, to refurbished Craftsman-style homes, and cottages. The street ends at a boat ramp that is perfect for launching your kayak in Richardson Bay. Bummers are parking (not San Francisco level of bummer, but all of the above referenced reasons for the area being great for dining bring an attendent increase in cars looking for parking), and some of the residents that live above in the hills drive way to fast (sometimes 35 - 40 mph) on Turney to get down to Bridgeway. Retail is odd duck. Three frame shops in two blocks. Bad Marin fashion store and a "more money than taste" art gallery round out the experience. High point is Waterstreet Hardware and Pine Street Papery (excellent stationery store). The rest is all hair and nails and dry cleaning. Turney Street is home to some wildlife. I am reluctant to call the resident raccoons "pests," but they are not timid. They live in the storm drains and "only come out at night."
