"Paterson Street - Great place to live!"
I'm a Realtor in the area with Keller Williams and I look at houses every day. I love living in downtown Madison. I think Madison does a good job of acting much bigger than it really is. There's are a number of great cultural experiences would typically be found in larger cities. The downtown has a great urban feel to it with ton's of stuff always going on. I love being able to hop on my bike with nearby bike paths leading throughout the city. I have lived in the Madison area most of my life, but usually in the suburbs (Oregon, Stoughton, McFarland, and Middleton). This summer, my wife and I moved to the near east side of Madison on Paterson St. We love it! We have wanted to live in the downtown area for quite a while and this seemed like a good fit. The near east side of Madison has a funky and creative feel to it. There's a neat mix of artists, musicians, fun shops, and cool restaurants. It's also a little more affordable than right on the capitol square or the near west side of Madison. There seems to be a lot of revitalization happening in the area. I could see the whole area along East Washington ave being redeveloped into something really cool. I wonder what developer can make it happen?
One thing to keep in mind is that E. Washington Ave has a number of people out "cruising" on friday and satuday nights. Otherwise, traffic is pretty moderate.
