"Piedmont Avenue - Urban Amenities Abound!"
My husband and I moved here on earthquake day of 1989 and feel like Piedmont Avenue is our home town. We can park the car and walk to everything we need from grocery stores to movies, fine restaurants and great burger joints, the library, drug stores, banks and health care facilities. When we need to go to San Francisco we hop on a shuttle to BART and we're there in 20 minutes. People are friendly, we love our neighbors and of course the weather is good old Oakland sunny. We're short of parks to walk to, but we have a fantastic historic cemetery at the top of The Ave which people use for walking, running, picnics, birding, weddings, tours, etc. Piedmont Ave is just a terrific, sort of undiscovered place to live. I'm in real estate and I waited quite awhile for a house to come up for sale. Glad I found one!
Pros
- Lively street with historic buildings
- Great pedestrian street, many walkers/bikes
- Friendly people, good restuarants
Cons
- Crowded on weekends, parking difficult.
- Housing prices rising
- Upward pressure on rents
