Main St
"great place if you are gay and want to party"
The area around the Montrose Westheimer intersection is well known for being a gay neighborhood. As long as you are not homophobic this is a great place to hang out. I take my kids there alll the time and there are some great restaurants like Niko Nikos or La Mexicana (great decor and a covered patio) nearby. Montrose runs from the Mecom fountain and the museums to the Bayou. Great stuff to do and see and great people to meet if you keep an open mind.

Alabama Dr
"Alabama Ice House, don't miss it!"
Alabama street is not much of a street. Mainly mixed housing and a few houses that have become shops. The highlight is the Alabama Ice House. An original Texas Ice House where folks used to pick up ice and a beer on their way home from work. It still stands as a kind of hut at the side of the road where you can sit outside and get a beer, play horse shoes or watch the local dogs chasing each other. Popular with bikers and locals, been there tons of times and never seen any problems, but in Houston you rarely do. Also Alabma bookstore is nearby but in reality it is just Borders but it is set in old cinema which is kind of unusual.

Richmond Ave
"Party street in a cool part of city"
Richmond runs a long way through Houston but the area down near the Galleria is well know for being a party area of the city. A great place to hang out and drink beer and eat good food. Also a good place to meet other people. I wouldn't want to live on it though. It's kinda busy, especially around midnight.
