"About Southwest"
Southwest is a fabulous area that is continuing to change and be developed. The area has 4 metro stop areas (L'enfant Plaza, Federal Center SW, Waterfront/SEU and Navy Yard.) Southwest is also walking distance to the National's baseball Stadium, Capitol Hill, Arena Stage, Fishermans Warf (famous fish market), waterfront park, and several restaurants. The National Mall, Smithsonian museums and downtown DC are close by. People I have sold properties to in Southwest DC enjoy living there.
Harbour Square, 430 N St, SW is one of several co-ops located in the SW Waterfront. This historic co-op is a made up of townhouses and high rise buildings. Harbour Square has many amenities including indoor pool, fitness center, lovely grounds and views. There parking and a 24 hour guard. The Walk Score is 71 –very walkable. The grocery store, metro, buses, Arena Stage and the Waterfront are close by. A bike share is located at 4th & M St, SW.
Another historic co-op located at 429 N St, SW is Tiber Island. This co-op has also been given a historic designation. Tiber Island has all the conveniences of Harbour Square; outdoor swimming pool; fitness center, lovely views, 24 hour desk, parking as well as the same pedestrian conveniences.

"Rediscovery of an old neighborhood."
There has been a recent rediscovery of a small out of the way North West DC neighborhood called Truxton Circle named after an old traffic circle that no longer exists. The boundaries for this neighborhood New Jersey Avenue NW, Florida Avenue NW, and New York Avenue,NW. Today, the neighborhood is more the shape of a triangle.
Truxton Circle was built in 1900. Apparently, the traffic circle caused problematic traffic congestion as well as contributing to many car accidents. The circle was demolished in 1947.
Location and beautiful old brick row houses is one reason why this neighborhood has gained much interest. This neighborhood is close to downtown, located between Bloomingdale-LeDroit Park, Shaw and Mount Vernon Sq. People who live in this location can walk to the Mount Vernon metro stop. The Shaw metro stop is also nearby and Howard University is not far.
Dunbar High School, the first all black public high school is located in this neighborhood as well as several parks and playgrounds. There are also 2 active civic associations ; The Bates Area Civic Association and the Hanover Civic Association.
I recently learned about this hidden neighborhood by visiting a lovely small street called Morgan Street, NW. This is a one block quiet street that is lined with quaint Federal style brick row houses that date back to the beginning of the 1900’s. At the end of the street is a newly renovated playground and basketball courts. Right across the street from the playground is Dunbar High School. Dunbar is in the middle of a renovation and huge beautiful addition.
