"We love it because it is diverse, hate it because it is ignored"

I have lived on this street for over five years. Many of the folks have stayed after purchasing the homes right after they were built in the late 60's early 70s. That says a lot about the feeling of comfort. We love our neighbors in general.

The good sides are it is a calm street with plenty of diverse folks who live nearby. There are a blend of well-to-do folks along with hard working-class families. We see a lotus, Mini, Honda Civic and Moped drive by every day.

Another great thing is the quick access to transportation Downtown on the freeway or MAX. Bus access is a bit of a walk. I, myself, ride my bike to downtown every day on a nearby bike path (but I"m a bit extreme).

Finally, the vibe on the street is great. Many families hang-out outside with the kids or by themselves chatting with the neighbors while the kids play. It makes for a very relaxed atmosphere and keeps lets folks from the outside know, we all have each others back if there is trouble. On the first warm spring days the place is alive with energy. On some years, we block-off the street entirely and have a big neighborhood BBQ.

The faults are subtle.

First is the sunset highway is close, so there is the slight white noise from the freeway. It isn't loud, and honestly after 10 min you don't even notice it any more. However, the homes nearby the freeway (on other streets) can look a bit shady. That said, there has never been a problem.

Next is that the neighborhood is located in unincorporated Portland. This may be nice to those libertarians out there. However, the neighborhood's main access street Butner, is badly in the need of a sidewalk for folks to walk to the local parks (which there are many) or even to the Sunset Transit Center.

CommunityMan Isn't the county then responsible for sidewalks? Who fixes this kind of thing there?
