"Nice, but noisy"

My military husband and I were renting a house on Sugar Pine St. for a few years. It was convenient to the base and most things, and pretty clean; a neighborhood with diversity. But we moved recently because the neighborhood had become noisy and, for a residential neighborhood, had become almost commercial.

A family moved in on the adjacent block, Cypress, running a landscaping company. Immediately there were trucks and equipment (even cherry pickers) lined up the 2 blocks early in the morning, with loud conversations, and the same in the evening. They would set our dog off barking and when I asked the workers if they would not park in front of our house (which is half way up the block from the company), they either did not understand or chose to ignore us. They have their vehicles cleaned in their driveway, so there is the sound of the compressor for hours--I had to shut my windows it was so loud. Sounds of wood chippers and IDK what else were the norm, but always machinery. I had enough when they started burning in what I assume is a fire pit at night--but it was so strong and awful that it would permeate through the closed windows. We would look out our window and see the smoke in the street lights all the way up the block and it would go on for hours sometimes.

So not having children yet, it was no big loss to move. The neighborhood has an elementary school, 2 nearby parks, and access to the bike path to the beach; I think there is a skateboard park as well (but don't quote me :)
Pros
  • great for kids, with the elementary school and parks
  • bike path for recreation
