"At the edge of the Buffalo-Metro area"
In the last 10-15 years, Lancaster has seen a lot of growth - which is both good and bad. Personally, I hate that the woods throughout the area have given way to cookie-cutter housing developments. A lot of other long-standing structures have also been torn down, and generic suburban structures have replaced them - Lancaster has rapidly let go of some character in order to capitalize on enticing families to move to the town and village. On the other hand, Lancaster has a fantastic school district, with tons of musical programs, sports and clubs, as well as several specialized academic programs in the high school. Lancaster used to be fairly 'country', but with all the new residents, that's quickly changing. One problem of note is the recent heroin use at the high school - been happening for the last few years.
Pros
- Great school district
- Easy commute to Buffalo
- 5-20 minutes away from Int'l Airport
Cons
- Drug use in the high school
- Limited nightlife in town
- Too many cookie-cutter housing developments
