"Forget about peace and quiet..."
For whatever reason, many residents feel the overwhelming need to blast their music on club sized speakers in their tiny yards. This has made any idea of living in peace and quiet, an impossible dream, especially when you come home froma hard day of work, or want to relax on the weekend, and several neighbors simultaneously decide to blast calypso or Indian or West Indian music. at top volume, at the same time. My family and I have lived in the area for over 30 years and it was really an idyllic corner of Queens. Now, it's almost torture to live here, never can get a night's rest (even in the winter time, can you believe) and we are all suffering from PTSD from the stress and strain of not even being able to open our windows during the summer time, or enjoy our back yard with friends without being driven inside by noisy, rude, inconsiderate "neigbors". Too bad, it was a wonderful neighborhood once.
