Would you choose Van Ness over Cleveland Park?

I am considering moving to Van Ness but wonder if I should hold out for Cleveland Park. I need to commute to work and take kids to school by foot, and I need a good school district. Wondering if Van Ness is too boring for a single mom with two kids. Any thoughts?
