"Good View But Nosy Neighbors"
Veteran’s Court is a really nice little residential street rising up on a hill. Some of the houses at the top of the hill have an okay view and overall the street is a good place to have families. It is very sunny and if you like to garden most of the houses have nice big yards well suited to planting flowers and other types of growths that need a lot of light. It is also good for pets although in the summer the grassy hills dry up and fill with fox tales that the wind picks up. These can be really bad for dogs. They can get into them and get them stuck in their eyes or ears, which can cause infection, so during the time that I lived here I spent a lot of time trying to weed them off the hill behind my place with very little success.
The houses are big and well suited to raising large families or for mixing blended families. The neighbors are pretty nice, but they are also very conscious of the manicured appearance of their front lawns. If you don’t take good care of your lawn or if you let animals get into your garbage cans during the night (there are some of these, especially at night), you are sure to get a knock on your door or find a note telling you what the neighborhood “standards” are. This is all good and fine. I guess it’s better to know than to have your neighbors hating you quietly for not keeping up community standards, but it is something to consider when you move here.
The local school is good, and there is a movie theater with several screens just down the street. The movies are all pretty main stream and I never go there these days, since whatever is playing there is playing at just about every other theater, but if you live right by it, its not bad. Martinez has a bit of a small town feel, though it used to be the capital of Martinez during Mexican times. It is definitely middle class, though skewing towards upper-middle class in this particular area. This section is also much newer in the area near the port a bit further north. At this point you are right by the border with Pleasant Hill.
Overall, Veteran’s Court is a slightly better than average street (mainly because of the way it rises up rather than being just flat). But if the prices that we paid are representative, it is a bit overpriced.
