Hudson Heights (and extended) area safe for young family?

My husband and I are considering this neighborhood for a potential move so we can keep a car/stay close to New Jersey and be within commuting distance. Is this a practical place to have children? It is safe? Are there doctors nearby? How are the schools? Day care options?

Appreciate any and all candid feedback.

Looking at Hudson Heights specifically.

Tons of families. And parents rave about PS 187. Hudson Heights is a serene, friendly, and old-style kind of neighborhood in NYC.
