50 Best Dishes in New York
So I've just begun a video project that will attempt to pick out the 50 best dishes in New York City. As you can imagine, it's an impossible feat-5,000 Best Dishes would be a little easier. I've only been in the city for a few months now and the contributors to these threads seem to have great perspective on the food here, whether it's from per se or はぎ さき Bar. Can you help me compile a (short) list of the foods that everyone in New York knows about but few from outside the city( aka me) have discovered? I'm looking across the whole price spectrum, but I'm most interested in the harder to come by amazing yet cheap food. Thanks everyone

1. The cheeseburger at Three Guys Diner. Like no other cheeseburger in the world!
2. The impeccably fresh penne with mozarella, tomato, and basil at Island in Carnegie Hill.
3. The potato-encrusted salmon at O'Neals Grand Street.
4. The caremelized brussel sprouts (seriously!) at Park Avenue Winter
5. The Saag Paneer at Banjara in the East Village.
6. The pastries at the Hungarian Pastry Shop in Morningside Heights.
7. A proper roast beef sandwich. This deli (the one that used to be Petak's) on 89th and Madison has a rare roast beef sandwich with crispy fried mini-onions and mustard that is PHENOMENAL!
-just some personal favorites.
The best dish of all time was a chocoalte/vanilla/almond/cream/cake called the Almond Delice at Cafe Guy Pascal (which also had amazing vegetable soups and chicken curry with rice), but alas, Cafe Guy Pascal has been gone for a while now.

It is hard to say. There are so many in the city. When I am down toward 12th and 2nd Ave, sometimes I go to Little Poland. They have the best fish and fruit bowl. Their prices are not expensive either.
Sometimes I go to the Sunflower Diner at the corner of 3rd Ave and 26th St. Very good food and the prices are not too bad either.

Nice project about the various dishes. Some My favorite dishes which I have found in www.eretzkosher.com are Three Bean with Hearts of Palm, Pasta Primavera , Sweet Carrot Tzimmes these three which I liked most. And so many dishes are available you can found them there.

@fabrigas I never really finished this list of distinctive NYC foods, but for whatever it's worth:

@Everybody: I went to Little Poland over the weekend and they raised their prices by a lot. I used to get 4 fish cakes with vegetables for $6.95. Now they want $14.95. Wow.

What am I craving today? The linguini alla frutti di mare at Trattoria dell'Arte (in a light tomato sauce), and the cold eggplant carbonara they have at the antipasto bar...that place has phenomenal food

@ajadedidealist I love Five Guys but they have them everywhere... They just built a Five Guys by my parents' house in the Middle of Nowhere, Florida. Is it really fair to give them treatment as one of the best NYC dishes? I am with you on the roast beef sandwich, though.
@fabrigas any flavor ice cream from Blue Marble in Brooklyn (http://www.bluemarbleicecream.com/), the roasted chicken sandwich or any variety of omelette from Athom Cafe (http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/athom-cafe/menu). I am going to think this one over, though - there are so many options.

@BroadwayBK I had Blue Marble a while back specifically on the recommendation of people on this forum. It was fantastic! However, having now sampled it, I still feel that Van Leeuwen (however the heck it's spelled) is far more flavorful and nuanced. For the record.

@Uraniumfish If Van Leeuwen is better than Blue Marble, I am going for breakfast tomorrow!
