"A couple of noteworthy things in a couple of blocks."

There's not a lot to West 9th because it only starts at 6th Ave. The rest of the land to the west is Jefferson Market Garden. The Garden is on the grounds of what was a women's prison until 1973. Mae West and a lot of civil rights activists were held here. It isn't the most aesthetically exquisite streets in the city, but there are a couple of notable things.
6th and 9th has a couple of high end markets which don't sound like anything noteworthy, but finding a good grocery store is like finding gold in this joint. This block has two!! There are a lot of old, beautiful apartment buildings between 5th and 6th where a lot of writers lived but not much in the way of food. But, one restaurant worth mentioning is Hotel Griffou. It used to be an actual hotel which served as a refuge for the bohemian set and it opened as a restaurant about a year ago. I so did not want to like this place because it was trendy. But, man, it is so beautiful, dark and old on the inside, it's really hard to not like. And, the food and drinks are pretty dang good themselves. I take people here at least for a drink just to check out the inside.
That's pretty much it for West 9th but the street is only a couple of blocks long so we can't really fault it.

"West 9th Street"

So, if you really want to experience the village, you have to spend sometime on your own exploring its many streets. I think that there’s something for everyone here, whether you’re into reading at the park, drinking in the bar, or chowing down on great eats. If you’ve ever seen the musical RENT, you’ll appreciate the Village Restaurant, which is remarkably similar to the bar the cast sung the wonderful La Vie Boheme in. It’s great.

I love this neighborhood, the vibe, and the people.
