In general I like West Town, which has Wicker Park, one of my favorite neighborhoods. That said, it has it's problems. I don't really pay enough attention I guess, but a friend of mine says you can see a prostitute on nearly every corner in Humboldt Park these days. I guess I don't look closely enough. There are a lot of artistic types in West Town, and it has a fun, young vibe overall. Good for singles.

The northeast part of West Town is known as Wicker Park - which is a blend of boutiques, restaurants, theaters, galleries and coffeehouses. You also have amazing examples of Victorian architecture from the beautiful historic mansions that were built in the 19th century.

One of the most popular places in West Town is Myopic Books. This used book store has been here for about 20 years and has 3 floors full of about 80,000 books.

This area is a haven for artists and the Flat Iron Arts Building (at the North-Damen-Milwaukee junction) has more than 50 studios and galleries. Most of these are open on Fridays and Saturdays - but some only see potential buyers by appointment.

There is a wide variety of restaurants as well. If you are looking for vegetarian fare visit the Earwax Cafe - where a lot of the dishes are less than $10. For Mexican fare there is Salud's - which offers 75 different kinds of tequila. The most popular restaurant is Cafe Absinthe which boasts an average meal price of $25.

Once you eat dinner you can enjoy a night of theater at Chopin Theatre, Redmoon Theater or Free Street Theater. There is also an abundance of shopping. You can go to AKIRA and find unique, contemporary fashions for men and women.

Overall there is so much great stuff to do in West Town and neighboring Wicker Park.
