How walkable is the West Village neighborhood in New York City?

I wouldn't recommend doing anything but walking. I've lived in the West Village for a while and I've rarely even taken a cab. Everything you need is within 5 or so blocks (depending on where you live). And, having a car is more of a pain than anything else because a lot of the streets in the West Vill are still cobblestone and one way.
