"Bargain Hunter's Heaven"
82nd Street in Jackson Heights NY is great because you don't need a car to get around at all. With the rising gas prices, this serves as a relief considering there are at least 3 different buses that run by there. They will take you to the local train station, the airport, or even into the city, for a flat rate currently of only $2.00
On 82nd street you will find everything from sneaker and clothing stores to pharmacies and fast food restaurants, all in the same block, as well as medical offices and delis. You can literally get all your essentials for back to school, travel, or just hang our with friends at the local movie theater. It's a perfect street for the busy, young student because you don't have to drive around town to find everything you need. Of course with the train being so close by it is a little noisy and crowded, but its like living in the city without all the expenses. You can literally walk down the block and find a new cell phone and a pair of sneakers and then get a tattoo and catch a movie without ever setting foot in a car. Most of the independently owned businesses there are open to bargaining as well, so if you are a good negotiator, you can be guaranteed to pay less than retail price for anything you buy.
It is also vey cultural. There are a lot of South Americans on 82nd street, and they are happy to share their food and other products such as clothing and flags. This street has many items that are imported straight from the native countries of colombiaa, Mexico, Brazil, and many more, so if you are from South America and long for your home cooking, or if you are not but are open to trying new things and become more well rounded, this is the perfect place to be.
