"Great for Furniture, Food and Fun"
Shellmound curls around the many new commercial establishments meant to draw in the recently gentrified residents of Oakland and to bring in new jobs for the locals. On the southern section of Shellmound you will find just about everything you need for home improvement. Just at the point where Shellmound turns into 40th St., you find a shopping area with lots of outlets for where you can find flooring, granite and wood—all at reasonable prices.
Around the curve, you find the new Ikea store and two of the best shopping areas in the county—comparable to Jack London Square a bit further south. The Ikea draws lots of people from all over the East Bay, so on weekends and during the holidays, you will find lots of crowds. At Bay St. you find the Bay Street Mall. There are a number of trendy stores like Gap and Gap Kids here and several solid eating establishments like a California Pizza Kitchen, a China Bistro, and the Elephant Bar. You have validated parking and security guards for the safety conscious.
At the end of Shellmound at about the point where it becomes Bay, you have Emeryville Marketplace Shopping Center which has a large Borders Bookstore and an International food court where you can find everything from Pakistani food to Mexican all at one location. Outstanding food at very reasonable prices. There is also a big movieplex at this location with more then ten screens, and a great pool bar, so it is great location for weekend dates both day and night. Furthermore, Emeryville’s location makes it a perfect spot to meet up with people coming from the city since it is at a crossroads of freeways just over the Bay Bridge. An excellent location.
