"Redwood Sanctuary"
Route 84 winds through Woodside all the way into the Thornewood Open Space Preserve before turning into La Honda Road a little ways up. The beginnings of this road are not as treacherous as the stretch at higher elevation, although it is tough to drive on as soon as you get out of Woodside. Bikers are prevalent in this town, so watch out.
Although the weekend athletes can be irritating, the drivers are actually quite polite. However, this road is a bit more crowded than any mountain street in the redwoods should be. Take precaution not to use the left lane to pass other cars, especially in sharp turns, because there are consistently moving vehicles.
Be cautious, drive slowly (but not *too* slowly), use the pulloffs if you need to, and you should be golden. Enjoy the views!
