Is Bushwick off the Gates Ave. station a safe area for 2 young females to live?

My roomate and I, both females in our 20's, are just about to finalize the lease on a Bushwick apt. right off the Gates subway station. We don't know if it's safe enough. Thoughts?

The Gates area isn't too bad. It's slowly changing there, but I would still exercise caution.
