Did you know that Denver offers recycling of hazardous household chemicals?

I recently realized I had a stockpile of household cleaners under my sink left by various roommates over the years. Obviously, you don't want to pour those down the drain, so what do you do? I found this great site http://www.denvergov.org/TrashandRecycling/TrashCollection/HazardousWaste/HouseholdHazardousWaste/tabid/438321/Default.aspx where you can request a pickup or if you live in a multi-family residence, you can make an appointment to drop off the chemicals for proper disposal. I'm grateful for the City of Denver making this service available. It's good for my children's children :)

That is a really nice service. It's impossible to even find recycling where I live, let alone for hazardous waste! I have to drive into town to recycle which is a pain!

I recently heard about the place at Colorado and I-70. I'm going to try and locate it so that I can coordinate the recycling run with a trip to the museum or something else. By Under-Road are you talking about the frontage road?

It's within 10 minutes drive of the Museum of Nature and Science at Denver's City Park on Colorado Blvd. Just hop off I-170 at Colorado and go North to the first light where you can take a left like you're going toward the under-road (I don't know if you'd call it a frontage road since it's literally underneath I-70. I've heard rumor of burying the elevated portion of the highway there, which will mean the end of the under-road. Sad trombone :) Any how, it's the 2nd left after that and you can't miss it.

Sad trombone!! That's funny. I totally misunderstood the other person who told me about it. I thought she said it was south of I-70 but where you're telling me makes a lot more sense. Now I know what you mean about the under-road. I was thinking the recycling place was east of Colorado, you know where that Safeway bakery or something is. Now I know what you mean! Thanks!

You don't really have to take them anywhere. You are allowed one pick up once a year in Denver for $15. No latex paint. They send you a bag that will hold about 15 gallons of paint. Household chemicals old non car batteries, cfl's etc are accepted. It is on the Denverrecycles website.

It's good to know that even if you have to drive to the services, they are available. I live in a multi-family building and it was a real pain to get recycling service in our building. The biggest problem that we ran into was fire code and a place to put the bins. It worked out after a few years of trying. I can understand why the city isn't able to offer the service at no cost to multi-family like it is able to for single family residences. There is so much more involved than you generally realize on first blush.

I used to love recycling day when I would drive it to the facility at I-70 and Colorado. It was a pain in the butt to load up the car with weeks worth of recycling, but I always enjoyed driving on what I call the Under-Road which runs along under I-70.
