My best advice is to look at a person's background, speak with them to see if your personalities mesh and determine their availability. Length of time in the business does not determine competence and in this market, ready availability is necessary!

When I have questions about a doctor, hairdresser or general contractor, et cetera I ask my friends and family about their experiences with these professionals. They usually have an opinion and are happy to share all the particulars. As buying and selling real estate is probably the most expensive financial endeavdor we transact, it is so important to find the right Realtor for the job.

Hi Jan. This is a great question and I will answer in very much the same way that I answered your question about how to find a good lender. I would recommend that you contact a couple of different agents and just chat with them. Once again this is a very important decision and first in my mind is that you and your Realtor need to "click". Of course you want to know about their experience and how comfortable they are in working with someone in your particular situation. Asking friends if they have someone they would recommend is a good place to start. Of course, I would be honored to speak with you myself and see if I would be a good fit or if I know anyone who be able to help.

Thank you, I'm in the beginning stages of looking and think I'm about 6 months out. I want to do my due diligence and make sure I cover all bases and learn as much as possible about all of this. I may be contacting you in the future. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

From NAR. The National Association of Realtors..... 2/3 of the agents in the nation have less than 5 years Experience. That shows the high turn over rate! SO... pic one that has more that 5 years.... Like me!

Hello Jan, Their are a lot of agents available for you to choose from, some with a little experience to those with lots of experience and knowledge of the market. I would suggest that you make a list of questions you have and call a few. Most of the time you can tell if someone fits your style and understands how to best assist you over the phone. Remember that when you are ready to look for a home it should be all about you and your needs, not about how great the agent thinks he or she is. If I can be of assistance please don't hesitate to give me a call.
