"Beverly Shores...this area is abandoned. The Parks took control of the land which was once owned by private land owners. The houses which stand are vacant and are deteriorating. Many houses which stood nearby were also acquired by The National Park Service and were demolished."

Dewey Culver Avenue was a great place when I lived on the street from 1942 to 1985. We loved running along the Lake watching the wind blow the waves from our porch. When my father died, he left he lake front property to me. My wife and I raised three great kids in this lakefront house at the east end of Beverly Shores. We were confident that they would live the rest of their life in this house until we got a letter in the mail. The Indiana Dunes had expanded its borders including our property. We were offered to stay there until we died or we could take their check, but we could not rent the property nor give it to our children. It was a cold rainy day when we finished moving out of that house and never to return again. I drive by and the house looks sad and falling apart. I wish we could live there again and fix it up.
