"Better than a lot of streets in the neighborhood but I still wouldn't live here"
East 32nd, as it starts in the neighborhood (on Lexington) is actually a cool little block if you can ignore all the tourists, cars and noise. Many of the buildings are from the 1920's and they're very New York, in my opinion. The Bowery Savings Bank building used to house all of the horses that pulled the trains because steam trains were not allowed to run past 27th street. Next to that is the New York Design Center -- a big mecca for interior designers and architects. There are a couple of furniture stores across the street presumably to cater to the Design Center crowd. There's a really cool building across the street that houses a service center for the homeless -- they get all the cool stuff (kidding).
Across Park, there's a really cool art deco skyscraper that houses not so cool offices. There's a fantastic wine and cheese place called Artisanal. It's pretty rare that I like a restaurant in this part of town, so this place gets extra stars just for that in my book.
The rest of the block is pretty much just office buildings and rug shops but the buildings are pretty cool, at least, which is more than I can say for a lot of streets in this part of town. Still, I wouldn't want to live here. There isn't much in the realm of things to do or culture. There's no energy here and there are just way too many tourists.
