"Nice place to retire"
I lived in the Wilshire House Apartments at 6151 E Mockingbird Lane in 2007. It wasn't restricted in terms of applicants, but it was practically a retirement village - I was in college at the time. As I moved out it seemed as if the tenants were becoming a bit more varied; younger families, other college students, etc. The area is generally comprised of older buildings - we couldn't get highspeed internet because the lines would have to be installed after they drilled through the walls but there was no problem getting cable. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance, Luby's, Big Shucks, Subway and necessities like grocery stores are also withing walking distance.
The neighborhood directly behind the complex were older houses that were primarily being rented out, flipped, or occupied by younger familes and retirees. The rumor is that the streets behind the Wilshire House are soon to be annexed into Lakewood which would greatly increase the property value, however that is still just a rumor as far as I know!
I liked it here, but I much prefer a younger neighborhood. If you want a nice, quiet place to retire I would suggest East Mockinbird lane as it has a quiet, slow-paced, lackidaisical feel.
