"Good value for Wine Country..."
Fact: Santa Rosa is, indeed, in Sonoma County. It is arguably the capital of Western Sonoma County, as it is the largest city. While there are some cool bars downtown, the crowd is not the most refined and the scenery leaves something to be desired, especially compared to its eastern neighboring town of Sonoma.
However, if you want value in Wine Country, Santa Rosa, and particularly Fountaingrove Parkway, are not a bad place to start. This neighborhood is home to both the Hilton and the Fountaingrove Inn, two of the nicest hotels in Santa Rosa. The Equus restaurant offers great appetizers, a selection of main courses, and, of course, plenty of wine - although I would stick to the restaurant side as the bar is more of a chintzy local scene.
True, Santa Rosa does not offer quite the Wine Country experience of neighboring Sonoma. But if you want to relax in a nicer, more affordable hotel and make the scenic drive through the Valley, then this is not a bad find.

Fountain Grove Pkwy
"Nice and quite escape for the weekend at Fountaingrove Lake"
Fountain Grove Parkway is a rather long stretch of a road the curves its way through wooded areas, residential homes and more wooded areas. This is the great escape for people that love camping who are heading to the private and beautiful Fountaingrove Lake. Fountaingrove Lake is a nice place to relax for the weekend and enjoy some quality time with your family and friends. Fountain Grove Parkway has had newer parts of the road constructed within the last five years that dip back down into the Santa Rosa area and have made room for more residential neighborhoods. Traffic can be busy during the week because of commuters coming from the North trying to head to downtown Santa Rosa.
