"Not a Good Place to Live"
When you consider that there are other neighborhoods nearby that have some great features to them, it's a shame that this one is not in the same category. Unfortunately this is an area of town where you really wouldn't want to live or even recommend somebody to visit.
Through the years it has become quite worn down and now there is very little to offer prospective buyers. Though you could get a good home for the money here, that's about the only draw. A lot of work is needed to bring this area back and that's what has kept many people away from buying a home here. Though it's not far from other areas that have amenities, it would be more desirable to look elsewhere in most cases.
If the money is given and the attention dedicated, this area could come back. It is close to the expressway which makes it very accessible. It's just one of those areas that has sort of died off and many hope that it like other areas of the city will somehow come back. For the here and now though, there isn't much to offer and therefore it's just not a great area to live in or visit.

"Nowhere I would want to live"
I dated a girl who lived in this area. It wasn't her fault that she lived in this area, it was all her people could afford. She lived on Chicago street, in this two family flat.
The neighborhood was in a state of disrepair, to put it kindly. Garbage on lawns, abandoned and burnt out houses, were lined up all the way down the street. Her neighbors played their music too loud and raced their cars up and down the street. The girl said that a homeless man accosted her one day while she walking down the street. He actually tried to drag her into an abandoned garage until she fought him off and ran.
Like most bad neighborhoods in Detroit, there are fast food restaurants and liquor stores on every corner. I remember we went to the McDonalds in this neighborhood, and the car in front of us had rowdy passengers in it. They were cussing out the drive thru worker for some reason. I just shook my head and pulled off.
There are plenty of buses running through the major streets like Evergreen and Greenfield as far as public transportation.
