"Grandin Road is, indeed, quite grand"

Grandin Road is a long and winding road that leads from Madison Road in the O'Bryonville area to where it ends at Grandin Place. At the start, you see the Grandin House hi-rise complex, apartments and businesses on the lower levels. On either side of the road are schools, the Springer School and Summit Country Day. Grandin Road has tons of trees and the large homes along it are on spacious lots. The Cincinnati Country Club is situated along Grandin a short distance away from where it begins. As Grandin wends its way along, the homes vary in size, but most of them can qualify mini-mansions at a minimum. Some are larger than others with larger lots spaced further apart. Some of the homes are closer together and closer to the road. As Grandin continues to wind along, past Edwards Road, the real estates begin. There are many large mansions (nothing mini about most of these) of varying age and style situated are large, well-manicured lots featuring expansive lawns and many plots of trees. This is where Cincinnati's old monied families lived and some of them still do. You wouldn't be wrong to call these estates...multi-million dollar estates. While Grandin Road doesn't have a lot of businesses, dining or nightlife (none really after the Grandin House), it is conveniently situated to areas with all of those amenities.
Pros
  • beautiful mansions on spacious lots
  • lots and lots of trees
  • Convenient location
Cons
  • extremely expensive
  • traffic can be heavy around the schools near Madison Road

"Old and beautiful"

Grandin Rd. is a place most people would gladly call home, if only they could afford to live there. It begins in O'Bryonville and ends in the Hyde Park /Mt Lookout area. There used to be a few old frame homes near the quirky intersection of Torrence, Grandin and Madison; but those were razed long ago to make way for the luxury multifamily dwellings on the corner.

Grandin has always had a grand reputation. Along the furthest curves and on its intersecting lanes, you'll find fabulous homes and elegant showplaces.

Grandin Rd. starts a few feet away from the O'Bryonville shopping district.
If you're looking for a fine private school education, Summit Country Day is also on Grandin Rd.
Springer School for students with learning disabilities is on the corner of Madison and Grandin Rd. in the former Marion High School building.

"Grandin Rd: Beautiful, but Full of School Traffic..."

Grandin Rd. is a beautiful street that happens to be a pretty accurate representation of Hyde Park as a whole. Grandin is made up of beautiful old homes with spacious, manicured lawns. Homes like these are aimed toward families These properties, like those in the rest of Hyde Park, don't come cheap.

This street, though, unlike most others in Hyde Park, isn't as peaceful and quiet as most others. That's because the Summit Country Day (K-12) is located right smack in the middle of Grandin Rd. Since the school has a montessori, lower school, middle school, and upper school, we're talking about more than 1,000 kids and their families using Grandin Rd. twice a day (and that doesn't include sporting events...). Additionally, you'll find Springer School and Center on the corner of Grandin as well. This only adds more traffic traveling through Grandin.

Now, if you have a child that plans on attending either Summit or Springer, this might be the perfect place to move. If, however, you want a place with more privacy and less through-traffic, I recommend looking somewhere nearby, since Hyde Park is full of many similar streets. Granted, the summer months are peaceful and traffic-less, but as soon as mid-August hits, you'll have a rough time getting out of your driveway at certain times of the day.
