"Really cute street to live off"
Hillhurst is one of the main streets in Los Feliz and it's a pretty cool street. It's a little too busy to actually want to live on. But, all of the surrounding streets off of Hillhurst are so quaint with the cutest apartments. And, there are some great places on Hillhurst that are all within walking distance from one of these really cute streets.
Farfalle is a restaurant on the corner of Hillhurst and Finley and it is one of my favorite places. It's a little Italian spot with a darling dining room and a few patio tables outside. The waiters are all really nice and the food is spectacular. The gnocchi is to die for at this place and the portions are quite large. And, the place is reasonably priced. Next door to Farfalle is Vinoteca Farfalle. It's a tiny wine bar owned by the same people. They have a great wine selection and a lot of small dishes including a killer skirt steak.
Mexico City is across the street from Farfalle. It looks like a crappy diner from the outside but it's always packed and they have great margaritas and pretty good margaritas. One of the best lunch spots in the city is on Hillhurst. The Alcove is awesome. It is entirely outdoors and the patio is divine. They have great, organic food and the weekend brunch is ridiculous. They don't have waiters so you have to wait in line to order and then try to hunt down a table. This can be pretty awful on the weekends but it's sort of worth it. I have spent hours with friends at the Alcove. On a nice day, it really can't be beat.
There are a couple of bars on Hillhurst and they're pretty funny. The Drawing Room is a total dive bar next to a laundry mat. Because there are so many hipsters in the area the place is pretty alright at night; but, during the day, this place is pretty scary. Ye Rustic Inn is across the street from The Drawing Room and it's a pretty fun bar but it does smell a little weird.
I lived off of Hillhurst for a few years and I love this street and the neighborhood. Sure, it's hipstery, but there are a lot of cool people around (most of the Hipsters seem to congregate around the Mustard Seed Cafe) and it's so quaint.

Hillhurst Ave
"Where the hip go to live..."
This, not unlike Larchmont is where the hip and upwardly mobile go to live. Ah, Los Feliz! Hillhurst Blvd, specifically from Los Feliz Blvd down to where Sunset and Hollywood Blvd feed into each other. You will feel moderately to mostly safe and all the shops cater to people who can afford to pay outrageous prices for things. Parking is absolutely SPARCE, however. So you must become expert at trolling for spaces, finding valet or walking a bit. It can be done. But once there you will find some very tasty places to eat like The Alcove, Mustard Seed and La Poubelle... it's a perfect destination that has a high and quaint aesthetic appeal with houses tucked all around it.
