If I had to pick the BEST park in Hyde Park, it'd be Jackson Park. Like GGChicago said, the park was the site of the 1893 World's Fair, and it's just a really nice park to hang out at. It's safe, clean and the little bit of history gives it gravitas.

There are two great parks and both are kid friendly.

Jackson Park (6401 S Stoney Island Ave) was the site of the 1893 World's Columbian Exhibition. It encompasses 600 acres of lakefront land. There are places to bike, skate, jog, sunbathe and enjoy nature. There is a golf course and a beautiful Japanese garden. There is also an indoor fitness center and in the summer the park hosts 'Movies in the Park'.

Midway Plaisance Park (1130 Midway Plaisance North) has an indoor ice skating rink - which is great during the winter months. There is also a 1.5 mile walking trail as well as free concerts and movies in the summer.
