Kips Bay, New York City - good neighborhood for families with kids?

It's ok. It's not a really busy neighborhood so traffic and noise aren't really an issue. But, it's also pretty far from transportation and the east part is a little sketchy late at night. Plus, all of the buildings are high rises and there isn't a lot of green in the neighborhood which, I feel, are pretty big minuses as far as the children factor is concerned.
