"Average downtown street in a great town"
Mill Valley is probably one of my favorite towns in the Bay Area - with half of the town in the foothills of Mount Tamalpais, and the other half down in the valley, shadowed by the beautiful redwoods and protected from much of the fog, Mill Valley is one of the most quaint towns in one of the most breathtaking areas in the world, filled with artists and academics, tech geeks and nature lovers.
Which is why I would have expected the town to have a better main drag in its equivalent of a downtown strip. Miller Avenue runs through much of the town, and one would expect it to be filled with shops and restaurants as a result, but Joe's Taco Lounge seems to be the hip, happening place - not because of its mediocre food, but because it is practically the only restaurant there. The atmosphere in here, and presumably in the 2-3 other restaurants on this drag, is pretty friendly and lively, but the selection is pretty minimal. Aside from this establishment, a sushi restaurant and a yoga studio, there is not much to see and I was fairly disappointed. At least it's in the middle of a really cool area. Maybe there is another downtown Mill Valley that I do not know about...
