I have owned a home on North Leamington Avenue, in an area known as "Belmont Cragin" for over 20 years. Most people who are unfamiliar with the area are often surprised by what they find here. I have seen many changes to the area during that time, but most changes have been for the better. The block that I live on is quite stable, which is an invaluable asset. My neighbor across the street has owned her house for over 50 years! My visitors often comment just how surprised they are to see how well-maintained our block is, and my response to them is that "it takes a lot of combined effort and dedication on behalf of the entire block. Most of the homes are in either the historic Bungalow style or the English Tudor style (my property).The City of Chicago has also done quite a bit to improve the infrastructure and attract new businesses to the community. While it may not have the name recognition that some other neighborhoods have, if you want a quiet, affordable area to put down some roots, please don't overlook this area. It has a lot to offer and you'll enjoy the feeling of the old time Chicago neighborhoods, complete with the early evening front porch conversations that are so vital to forming a community.
