"Definite pros, definite cons"

Orkney Rd. (near where Ayr Rd. crosses) has some great aspects and some significant disadvantages. Shall I start with the good?

Public Transportation:
For someone like me who doesn't have a car, access to public transportation is excellent. You can walk to the D and head quickly into Boston or Newton, walk to the C and get to Coolidge Corner or the B if you're going to Whole Foods or somewhere along Comm. Ave. You've also got the 86 bus which will take you to Harvard Square.

Outdoor Recreation:
One of the best things about living here is the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, pool, park, and tennis courts. All free and so close. The reservoir is gorgeous nearly any time of year and it's great for walking, running, and biking. During the summer the pool is great for cooling off in the water and sunbathing. The park across the street is great for reading a book, playing tennis, or picking up food from one of the food trucks that is usually parked there.

Now for the bad.

Noise:
Loud, drunk college students. Yelling night and day from the roofs of their apartment buildings. Blasting music and setting off fireworks. I am not kidding. You will not get peace and quiet here. Besides the students, the C train can be heard pulling into and out of the station (though the train is much less of a disturbance than noise of the human variety).

Lack of desirable restaurants and shops:
Cleveland Circle caters to college students' wallets and tastes. So, you've got burrito places and pizza places basically. Since I have been out of college for several years, these sorts of places appeal to me only occasionally. For good restaurants and shopping it's necessary to head to somewhere like Coolidge Corner.
Pros
  • Public Transportation
  • Outdoor Recreation
Cons
  • Noise
  • Lack of restaurants and shops
